This is a plain statement of what we collect and why.

What we collect about you: your phone number (to sign in), your name, and any gender, birth year, city, photo, or short bio you choose to add.

What you add about others: the names of your relatives, their relationships, and the details that go with them. That data belongs to the tree it was added to.

Your phone’s contacts: they open only when you tap “Choose from Contacts” while inviting someone, and nothing from them is uploaded. The person you choose is all the app receives: their number goes with the invitation as if you had typed it, and the name you saved them under stays on your phone.

Your calendar: the app reads nothing from it. When you tap “Add to calendar” on a gathering, your phone’s own sheet opens with its details, and you save or cancel it there. None of this reaches our servers.

Notifications: if you turn them on, we keep your phone’s push address until you sign out or delete your account. The text of each one passes through Expo, then Apple or Google, to reach your phone: the tree’s name, a post’s title, or a new member’s name. A post’s details and photos do not. A notification can show on your lock screen.

Who sees what: a tree’s visibility is set by its owner alone. On a public tree, non-members see nothing of a living woman’s details but her name and her place in the tree, unless the tree’s owner turns that off. A phone number is governed by a separate per-card setting, defaulting to “admins and me”. Phone numbers never reach non-members.

What we do not do: we do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not let non-members search for people by name.

Where it is kept: on our hosting provider’s servers, with photos in private storage readable only through temporary links.

Deleting your account: under Support → Delete account. Your account and profile are deleted. The family data you added stays in the tree, no longer attributed to you, because deleting it would sever the relationships of other people who had no part in your decision.

Your rights: you can view and correct your own data from your profile, and delete your account whenever you wish.

For any question about your data, write to us at support@shajara.sa.
